Google adds review search, drops device filter

Play Store reviews now surface a search box that lets users dig through feedback with keywords, narrowing long review streams to specific bugs, features, or regions. The update appears in the reviews section for many apps, where a text field filters user comments in real time and highlights relevant entries.

At the same time, the long-standing option to filter by “this device model” is disappearing for many users. That control previously acted as a rough compatibility check, showing reviews only from people on the same hardware profile. Its removal shifts the signal mix toward broader sentiment and away from device-specific troubleshooting, which some power users relied on to spot driver issues or chipset quirks.

The new review search aligns with Google’s focus on discovery and engagement inside its marketplace, giving developers more chances to surface feature requests and recurring complaints, while giving users a faster way to validate crash reports or performance claims across different configurations.
