Risk, not politics, appears to drive the order. Officials frame the ban as a biosecurity shield against transboundary animal diseases, invoking core veterinary tools such as quarantine protocols and sanitary and phytosanitary measures to justify stopping animals and related products at the border before pathogens can enter domestic herds.
Yet supply chains will not absorb this quietly. Importers face contract disruptions, shippers must reroute cargo, and domestic producers may gain a short-term price lift even as feed costs and slaughter capacity limits cap any windfall, leaving consumers exposed to tighter meat and dairy supplies if alternative sources fail.
